UPDATE April 24th: We have shared an update in a new blog post.

UPDATE February 9th, 13th: Since this was published on February 8th, Twitter shared more information. The changes were delayed until further notice, but it was still unclear how their new pricing will work for providers like Aiir.

We’ve got some disappointing news to share, that may affect you if you use parts of Aiir’s products which communicate with Twitter.

It might not be possible soon for Aiir to integrate with Twitter’s service, due to some changes they’ve announced.

This would mean that you wouldn’t be able to send a tweet from our web platform (such as after writing a news story, or in Social Publisher), see tweets in Studio Inbox, or post from the log in PlayoutONE.

Like lots of websites, Twitter offer a public API — a way for internet services to talk to each other.

This API has been largely free to use, within acceptable limits.

You might’ve heard Twitter entered new ownership in 2022 and since then there have been numerous changes to the service, often with little or no notice.

On February 2nd, Twitter announced their API would no longer be free from February 9th, but has yet to share any further information, including pricing.

With no further information, and the change seemingly imminent, it’s likely that Aiir’s access to Twitter will be disrupted before we’re able to respond and make the necessary adjustments.

We understand Twitter is a business, and things change. It may no longer be feasible for them to offer a free tier for API access. Our hope is that they will delay the introduction of these changes following the announcement of pricing, to give developers sufficient time to act.

But if the changes go ahead as currently implied, it means Aiir’s integration with Twitter will cease to work from February 9th.

We’re really sorry if this causes you disruption. We hold out hope that there’ll be a last minute change of heart.

If you have any questions about any of this, you can reach me or any of my colleagues by email, support@aiir.com
